35 years in Real Estate, more than half her life, now that's quite some time.
The first half of her career, approximately 15 years, was spent in Real Estate Law working with Sole Practitioners. This gave her the opportunity to learn first hand everything there is to know in real estate. Starting out as a receptionist she quickly advanced to handling files on her own which included purchases, sales and refinances. She understood all the dynamics for these transactions from reading the Agreement of Purchase and Sale, understanding "Title Searches", Liens, encumbrances, set-backs, rights-of-ways, and surveys. Most importantly she knew what errors, if any,to look for in the Agreement of Purchase and Sale and how to handle them and/or direct them to the Solicitor. Darlene also become quite knowledgeable in the handling of the mortgages for purchases, sales and refinances. She understands the importance of the mortgage i.e. discharging and the penalties involved, porting of the mortgages etc. It became evident after a while that unless she went on to get her law degree there was really no room for advancement, so in 1997 she left the world of Real Estate Law to pursue what she knew best Real Estate.
In Darlene's first month of becoming a Salesperson she got three lisings in the Upper Bloor West Village, one of Toronto's sought after west end neighbourhoods and she hasn't looked back since. Her first full year in Sales, 1989, she became a member of the 100% Club and continued to earn Executive Awards. In 2001 she obtained her Brokers designation, she then went on to open her own Real Estate Brokerage in the up and coming "Junction" neighbourhood of Toronto. She thrived and was often featured in the Toronto Star Real Estate Section for properties that she sold brining attention to the area. If that wasn't enough, she went on to obtain her Mortgage Brokers Licence so her "Boutique Style" office became a one-stop shop for Real Estate. Darlene also invested in Real Estate purchasing and renovating a number of homes, from simple cosmetic touch-ups to full blow renovations. She obtained the knowledge of dealing with City Inspections, by-laws and contractors. Somewhere along the line she has taken on the task of Property Management - she has seen and done it all.
Darlene has built her 35 years career on her stong dedication to her clients, her knowledge, her straight forward professional advice and her ability to listen to what her client's wants and needs are. Darlene wants to ensure that clients become clients for life.
